Working 8am – 8pm
Living to pay the bills
Feeling as though life was just pointless.
Questioning whether it was possible to live a life of meaning.
Everything was screwed up – my work, my marriage, my finances.
I was left asking, “Is there more to life than this?”
I will never forget hitting utter breakdown. My marriage had ended and the feeling of anxiety crashed over me like a tsunami. I was living a busy life, but it wasn’t a fulfilled life. I had people around me, but I felt lonely. I was smiling on the outside but screaming, deep within.
SOMETHING JUST HAD TO CHANGE.
My breakdown was the beginning of the revelation of my purpose. My marriage was over and I just couldn’t continue living my life the way it was right now. One night I attempted to take my own life, to wipe my existence off of the face of the planet.
Breakdown is the beginning of the revelation of the purpose.
I had reached the point of utter breakdown, it changed my life.
Maybe you are asking the same questions of your life with the ultimate question being, “Is there more to life than this?”
The biggest, best and boldest changes only happen in your life when you make the decision that your life is truly worth living.
I had reached a point of utter breakdown but I was still looking for someone, a friend, my parents, a coach… anyone at all… to give me permission to start creating the life that I wanted to live, to live life on my terms.
And that’s when the reality hit. I couldn’t blame anyone else for the life that I had been living, but myself. I was the one who had to take responsibility for what my life had become.
The absolute power came in the truth of the realisation that I am the one who is responsible for my own life, I am the only one who is capable of living out my dreams, no-one else.
If you are at that place in your life where enough is enough, if you know that you should be living a life that you absolutely love then well done. This is an amazing place to be.
Most people view “breakdown” or “being fed up” with the life that you are living as a negative attitude, it’s not, it’s an empowering one. To take stock of your life and appreciate that you want so much more is the breakthrough that you need.
So, you know that everything has to change, but what next?
I speak to so many people, every single day, who have come to this incredible realisation that they cannot continue living the life that they are living. This is an exciting place to be because the result is that you are hungry for so much more in your life!
If you have got to that place of knowing that life is meant to be more fulfilling, more vibrant, more freeing and more enjoyable then it’s time to make some decisions about the life that you are currently living and the life that you want to live.
If you are wondering what’s next, simply pause. Life is busy – jobs, family, children, bills, trying to make time for everyone and everything, that we don’t get enough time to pause and think about the life that we actually want to live.
I want you to pause and have time to reflect. You can “pause” in whatever way works for you. Some great ways to pause include:
- Get out of the house and go for a long walk on your own and meditate and reflect on what you want for your life.
- Go into a private room in the house, away from all distractions, and grab a piece of paper and pen and write down a passionate list of everything that you want to do in your life.
- Talk to your partner, your family, your friends and have “dream” conversations. I love starting a specific conversation that goes like this, “At some stage you are going to get the to end of your life and have a moment to reflect on everything that you have done, in that one moment what would you like to look back on and be so proud that you have achieved?”
This is a great conversation as the results often make you realise that there is a huge gap between what you want to achieve and what you have currently achieved so far and so it is time to take action.
Once you have had time to think, reflect and ask creative questions I want you to answer the following questions about your own life:
- What is it about the life that I am living now that I am not happy with?
At the end of my life I want to look back and be so proud of having achieved the following things…
- Out of all the things that I want to achieve in my life the first thing I want to achieve is….
In order to achieve this awesome thing in my life I need to…… (This is where you take your goal, whether’s it’s improving your relationship, increasing your finances, changing your job, travelling the world and write an exhausted list of the steps that you need to take to achieve this very thing).
It’s one thing having a dream to achieve for your life, which many have and it’s another seeing that dream become reality. The only way that we see a dream become reality is to break the steps down into smaller items and take action every single day.
If you are asking whether there is more to life than this, this is the absolute best place to be in. The only positive response you can have to that question is to determine the life that you do want to life and then take nothing but inspired and consistent action to ensure that you get there.
